Medical Imaging Services

The Imaging Department provides state-of-the-art imaging services, which include general diagnostic, fluoroscopic and interventional radiography and Nuclear Medicine and CAT Scan services. Palms West is accredited by the American College of Radiology in Ultrasound, Cat Scan, and Nuclear Medicine.

Lighting the Way in CT Imaging

To provide you and your family with the ultimate in imaging technology, Palms West Hospital utilizes the, state-of-the-art, GE LightSpeed 16 Slice CAT (Computerized Axial Tomography) scanner and state-of-the-art software. Minimally invasive and ideal for such procedures as CTA (CT Angiography), it can study both arterial and venous blood vessels with amazing speed and accuracy. By differentiating between the body's normal and abnormal structures, it can pinpoint areas that need a closer look. Ask your doctor if CT imaging is right for you. Pediatric sedation is readily available if needed.

Advanced Radiology Ready When you Need it

For improved image quality, Palms West Hospital offers the latest GE Precision 500 radiographic and fluoroscopic units. Our dedicated Chest Unit offers chest x-rays without the wait. For fast, accurate imaging in an emergency, count on our advanced GE Proteus Radiographic Unit, reserved for emergency patients only. For traditional x-rays, no appointment is necessary-just bring your prescription to our main reception area.

High Definition MRI Technology

Our state-of-the-art, high definition magnetic resonance system from GE Healthcare, EXCITE HD, captures dramatic images of our patients, reminiscent of high definition television. This system provides physicians with outstanding image quality for a more confident diagnosis, and less likelihood of rescans, even in the most challenging circumstances. Advanced capabilities and new applications available are:

  • Brain imaging with uncompromised image quality, despite patient motion-Evaluation of diabetic patients for low blood flow to the lower legs provides the ability to capture high-resolution detail all the way down into the critical vessels of the foot
  • Extremely high-resolution images of the abdomen, for liver exams with shorter breath holds and better organ coverage then previously possible.
  • Examine both breasts in a single exam with high-resolution, high-sensitivity results and also perform MRI guided breast biopsies.

The Ultimate in Ultrasound

Four private exam rooms and the latest technology make Palms West Hospital the place to be for ultrasound patients, including expectant mothers. Our sonographers can now create images with unsurpassed clarity and detail for both adult and pediatric patients. Additionally, we perform ultrasound guided biopsy procedures.

Nuclear Medicine for a New Generation

With the unique design of our GE Millennium MG Dual Head camera, we're seeing greater accuracy and efficiency than anyone could have imaged a decade ago. Formerly time-consuming studies can be completed in a fraction of the time, producing images that can make a life-saving difference.

When Special Procedures are Required

Palms West Hospital is proud to offer endovascular techniques for peripheral vascular disease, uterine fibroid embolizations and more. Our dedicated interventional/endovascular radiologist is available daily to consult with your physician about the treatment plan best for you.

Interventional imaging procedures performed at Palms West Hospital provide diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of potential conditions.

Angiography and Venography are defined as X-rays performed by inserting a thin tube into a blood vessel and injecting a drug that can be seen on a xray. This procedure will allow evaulation of the confition of blood vessels such as narrowing or blockage caused by hardening of the arteries or blood clots. Also, this procedure can evaluate the circulation of certain deseases such as tumors or abnormally shaped blood vessels called aneurysms.

Stents are a wire mesh which is expanded inside a blood vessel narrowed by hardening of the arteries or blood clot in order to improve the circulation.

Angioplasty is a method of widening a narrow blood vessel by temporarily inflating a balloon inside a blood vessel in order to improve the circulation. Sometimes both angioplasty and stenting are done at the same time to improve circulation.
